The Perfect Manhattan is one way of making the famous Manhattan. Most people are aware of the Manhattan cocktail, which is a combinatioin of whiskey, vermouth and Angostura bitters. The Perfect Manhattan is made with equal parts sweet and dry vermouth, and this combination provides a balance worthy of the ‘perfect’ name. Unlike other Manhattans, the Perfect Manhattan doesn’t really need bitters to compliment its taste, but that doesn’t mean you can’t add some if you want to.
The Manhattan is a cocktail that is able to be varied greatly, and variations still occur under the Perfect Manhattan umbrella. Manhattans were traditionally made with a rye whiskey and this still provides the best taste, but Canadian whiskey or bourbon can also be used. Using Scotch makes a Manhattan a ‘Rob Roy’ instead. Other people use different bitters than Angostura bitters to create a slightly different taste.
