Artist’s Special Cocktail Recipe

An old French cocktail with a hearty yet smooth warmth.

The Artist’s Special was reportedly invented in the Artists Club in Paris. It has a smooth, red appearance that belies its Scotch whisky base.

Artist’s Special Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 measure Scotch
  • 1 measure sweet brown sherry
  • 1/2 measure lemon juice
  • 1/2 measure grenadine or redcurrant syup.
  • Half slice of lemon to garnish

Redcurrant syrup is pretty difficult to find these days, so most people use grenadine instead. The original cocktail had redcurrant syrup, though.

How To Make an Artist’s Special

  1. Shake all liquids together in a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Strain into a cocktail glass.
  3. Garnish with lemon.
